What is a mirror and how does it work?

A mirror is a piece of glass that is coated with a thin reflective material on one side. This material is typically is aluminum, silver or other non toxic reflective material. How it works then is that the reflected image is comprised of photons, which are particles of light. When these photons initially hit the mirror they cause electrons to vibrate within atoms, which in turn produces an identical light photon. When the light hits the mirror it is reflected back at the same angle it hits at but the image it produces is reversed or backwards. Try this sometime, write your name on a sheet of paper and hold it up to the mirror, it will appear backwards!

How will a custom mirror change the room I am thinking about placing it in?

One of the biggest reasons for a mirror (especially unframed mirrors) is to make the room appear to be larger than it really is. Living rooms, bedrooms, gyms, and other rooms benefit from mirrors to make the space appear larger. Mirrors can also add to the Feng Shui (an ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment.) of a space like a school or doctors office. Lastly a good mirror can give you a place to model that new jacket or hairdo before going out with friends.
